Key Quote: "[S1] A good public speaker takes their audience on a journey, leaving them feeling inspired and motivated."

With most of us social distancing and spending more time at home with family, I find myself telling stories like "I remember when…".  People are also spending more time reading stories or listening to them on audio books.  We like stories.  They make up who we are and help us communicate ideas like how you arrived at some personal wisdom or insight, how you explain the benefits of a new approach, or how you overcame difficulty with an existing system or personal challenge. I ran across the SPARKOL web site not too long ago and what captured my attention was their focus on helping people present better by providing tools to "get more Whoooahh and Ahhhh with a lot less Arrrghhh".  I like that!  This article provides eight types of stories to use in presentations, provides a video as a demonstration of the technique, and provides you with what the type of story can be used for.  The videos are captivating, the article is easy to read, and it has some fun graphics.  I encourage you all to read the article for each of the story types but I related to the monomyth story.  It seemed helpful for a lot of the speeches we make in toastmasters.  In this type of story, the presenter takes folks on a journey from known to unknown.  The presenter returns to the known to share their new found wisdom. The author suggests the Lion King as a good demonstration.  Sparkol recommends the monomyth storytelling technique when you want to take the audience on journey to show how you learned something, show the benefits of taking risks, or showing how you learned some newfound wisdom.   This is a fun read if only for the stellar videos that demonstrate a technique but there is so much more.  It's a good story!
